While the world waits for the planet’s next environmental report card at the Rio+20 Summit from June 20–22, young people act and empower others to do so.

It was called the earth Summit. The 20,000 participants included 107 heads of state, government officials and members of nongovernmental organizations. They all descended on Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the summer of 1992 with the goal to seal the Earth’s future, implementing sustainability as a value in development. Lofty goals were set, but the road to achieve them would be arduous.
